Understand Your Netgear EX6100 Extender

Before executing Netgear WiFi extender setup EX6100,get familiar with your extender's LEDs, ports, and the buttons.

LEDsDescription

Router Link LED

This LED indicates the connection between the EX6100 extender and thehome WiFi router.

Solid green: Best connection

Solid amber: Good connection

Solid red: Poor connection

Off: No connection

Client Link LED

This LED indicates the connection between the EX6100 wirelessextender and a computer.

Solid green: Best connection.

Solid amber: Good connection.

Solid red: Poor connection.

Off: No connection.

Power LED

Solid amber: The extender is booting.

Solid green: The extender is powered on.

Off: The extender is powered off.

WPS LED

Solid green: WiFi security is enabled.

Blinking green: The connection is in progress.

Off: WiFi security is not enabled

Install the Netgear EX6100 WiFi Extender

There are three steps to install your Netgear EX6100 extender. Theyare as follows:

1. Place your WiFi extender;

2. apply power;

3. connect it your home wireless network.

Placement of Your Netgear WiFi Extender and Installation of Plugs

Place your Netgear EX6100 extender in the same room as of your home WiFi router.

Plug-in the WiFi range extender into an electric power outlet.

Wait until the power LED not turns into green. If the power LED does not emit, press the Power button.

Ensure that the switch present on the wireless extender is set to Extender.

Connect to an Existing Wireless Home Network

To extend the range of your wireless network, you have to connectyour Netgear EX6100 extender to your existing wireless home router.You can do this in two ways either via WPS or using Netgear Geniesmart setup.

WiFi Protected Setup (WPS) Method

WiFi protected setup lets you get connected to a secured wirelessnetwork without typing the network SSID name and passphrase key.

Note: WPS does not support WEP security. If you are using WEPnetwork security, try Netgear Genie smart setup method.

Toconnect with WPS

Press the WPS button present on the side panel of your WiFi extender.

Wait for two minutes, the WPS LED on the extender emit solid green, and the extender will be connected to your existing wireless network.

Note: If your home WiFi router supports 5GHz band, repeat steps 1 and 2 to configure the extender to the 5GHz bandwidth.

Unplug your extender and place it to a new location.

Now, try to connect your any device to netgear_ext wireless network.

Run any web browser on your connected device and search 'Netgear WiFi extender' to test the internet connectivity.

Connectwith Netgear Genie Setup

Connect your Netgear EX6100 extender to the router via an Ethernet cable.

Take another Ethernet cable and connect your router to the computer.

Run any web browser on your computer and enter mywifiext local.

You will land on the Netgear Smart Genie setup page.

Enter the default EX6100 extender login credentials.

Hit on the 'Log In' button.

Now you are on the Netgear extender admin panel.

Simply follow the on-screen instructions to configure your EX6100.

Once done, hit on the Save button.

Unplug your WiFi extender and place it to a new location.

Now, try to connect your computer to the extended wireless network.

Run any web browser on your connected device and search 'Netgear WiFi extender' to test internet connectivity.
